WinSCP 6.5.5: Complete Installation & Usage Guide

WinSCP is the industry-standard free SFTP and FTP client for Windows. It provides a secure way to manage files on your Thailand Dedicated Server or Cloud VPS at IC-MyHost. This guide covers everything from installation to your first file transfer.

Part 1: Installation Steps

Step 1.1: Run Installer

Double-click the downloaded WinSCP-6.5.5-Setup.exe. Choose "Install for all users" (Recommended).

Step 1.2: License Agreement

Read the terms and click "Accept" to proceed with the General Public License.

Step 1.3: Setup Type

Select "Typical installation". This includes all necessary components for standard FTP/SFTP use.

Step 1.4: Initial User Settings

Select the "Commander" interface style. This layout features two panels: your local computer on the left and the remote server on the right, making file transfers intuitive.

Step 1.5: Complete Installation

Click "Install" and wait for the process to finish. Once done, click "Finish" to launch WinSCP.

Part 2: Configuring Your Connection

When WinSCP opens, the "Login" window will appear. Enter your server details as provided in your IC-MyHost Welcome Email:

  • File Protocol: Select SFTP (Secure) or FTP.
  • Host Name: Your Server IP (e.g., 103.xx.xx.xx) or your domain.
  • Port Number: 22 for SFTP or 21 for FTP.
  • User name: Your assigned username.
  • Password: Your secure password.

Part 3: Basic Usage & File Transfer

  1. Connecting: Click "Login". If it's your first time connecting via SFTP, accept the server's host key.
  2. Navigation: Use the left panel to browse your PC and the right panel to browse your Server.
  3. Uploading: Drag files from the Left panel to the Right panel.
  4. Downloading: Drag files from the Right panel to the Left panel.
  5. Editing: Right-click any file on the server and select "Edit" to modify code directly.

Security Note: We strongly recommend using SFTP at all times to ensure your data is encrypted while traveling through the CAT-IDC backbone.
